Greeting WBs -
I'm Article_86. I started playing FA when it first began and was quite active in the Community. I started off with just a laptop, a keyboard, and dialup (lol), and ended up with a custom machine I built and a cable modem ... I was clearly addicted to the game. Then I fell off the face of the earth for a while, but came back a few months ago just in time for FA to crash and burn ... bummer. I'm hoping that a lot of the FA gang comes to WBs as the FA site recommended.
This leads to my first gripe ... I could not login until I bought a download and a subscription ... 'bout $50 ... pretty steep. It seems that WBs wants to see a Dx9 file and I was using Dx11, so I added the Dx9 file on top fo Dx11 and I finally got the application to launce. I sent an emal to Cust. Serv., so I'll see what happens there.
My second gripe is about the Controler Setup. I'm using a Saitek 52X Pro and it seems pretty worthless. I sure would appreciate a profile or some help setting t up. My third grip is the video quality ... in the external view, my bombs/rocket jitter and shake back and forth. Looks like my ground crew left the hard-points loose ... very cheesey.
My third gripe is that with all the login problems and the application launch problem I now have about 6 different login IDs/passwords. I even have 3 logins for this Forum. Is it really necessary to have different password sets for TotaSims.com AND WBs?! It couldn't be much more confusing.
My fourth gripe is that I hate all these GoogleAds that are going off in every window that is opened ... c'mon guys!
Well, only 4 gripes to start ... not bad for me! hehehe Please find below some of my system specs. that may help clarify my situation. Thanks and hope to kill 'yas soon! ;-p

Well I just sent a long post about all the problems that I'm having with WBs and the only thing that came through was a HUGE picture of my old Squadron's plane in the Navy. It seems that even these forums have their problems. I'm so pissed now that I may resend later. That is IF I decide WBs is worth the hassles.

I was just rejoicing because I got rid of the huge pic. All other gripes remain. Thanks for the interest.

Hi Art,
Welcome to Warbirds.
LEts see if we can help with your problems!
gripe number one:
It was my understanding that WILDBILL set up a special download site for FA guys. I checked and it appears to be up. Did it not work for you?
Here's the url:
https://www.totalsims.com/index.php?page=aviatorssignup2
I haven't tried it myself, but the directions are there and seem fairly clear.
If it doesn't work, WILDBILL will very likely sort it out for youi personally.
Gripe number two:
Controller setup. A number of our players use Saitek products with great success. If you come to the training arena Thursday night, one of the trainers will be glad to help you set it up in WB.
Gripe number three:
Graphics quality:
Warbirds is moving to an entirely new graphics engine over the course of this summer. It should look pretty good.
As for as the external view goes, that view isn't used much in online play. It's allowed in the main arena only. We (trainers) don't encourage players to get too much in the habit of fighting and flying in that view since it is not allowed in the more advanced arenas or in S3s. Besides, it doesn't give you all the information you may need to fly the plane accurately and well. Remember, in most arenas there is no easy mode in warbirds. If you have been flying in a relaxed realism mode using external view in FA, you may find part of your controller problem is due to the increased sensitivity and difficulty of a more realistic simulation mode. Trainers can help with that as well. You can come by on the scheduled training night, (Thursdays) or simply post a request for training in the training forum OR just ask any player with = signs in his/her handle to help you out. There's a page trainer button in the tower and, depending on the time of day you will often find a trainer in the arena and ready to help.
Gripe number four:
This one seems mostly related to gripe number one. If you were unable to get the special FA url to work for you, then we'll have to get WILDBILL to sort it out. This seems to be a new problem- as other FA guys have gotten in and online with minimum aggravation.
I understand your frustration, but I hope it doesn't keep you from enjoying the game with us.
Gripe four A"
GOogle ads? You mean in the forums? The only ads i see are at the top of the forum pages. They don't seem very intrusive to me, and the small revenue helps fund these forums.
Anyhow, welcome to WB. It's ok to gripe here- and many of the longtime players are absolute experts at it!

I'm sure transitioning to a new game is frustrating. Not only a new company and new ways of doing things, but new stick commands, views, game play, ect. But please stick with it. You will find many here that will help, all the way up to WildBill himself.
And you will find that, just as you were addicted to FA, we long time WBers are just as addicted to WB and hope you will be as well. Stick with it and I hope to see you in the virtual skies soon!
there is a new graphics system in the works and is being tested presently.

Thanks for the sites you posted, but I am unable to register or login to access the profiles. Could you ask the Site Administrator to let "Article_86" have permission at these sites?

You should be able to register at War-Birds.org.
AGW doesn't seem to want any new registrations. The page didn't have much of anything you need to know anyway. Here is what I could get from that pg.
| Quote: | Saitek X52 Pro
Anybody have experience with it?
Re: Saitek X52 Pro
dont use the siatec programing just the basic drivers. [theres an option]
or let windows install a driver, same results.
Ive had no trouble other than after a couple years hard use the throttle hat switch broke.
some complain that the stick doesnt have the stiff feel of the old cougars but never having owned one I dont know what Im missing.
Save your cash and get the regular X52. Other than the software and a couple bells/whistles, there almost no difference from what I could tell. Both use hall sensors instead of pots. I use the X52 with CH pedals, and became used to it pretty quickly.
I have one, and BM is right. I fly w/the X52 pro and the Saitek Pro flight rudder pedals, very nice and smooth set up, been very happy with both. I still have my regular X52 as a back up. |
